In his opinion piece Some Facts About Divorce (January 18), John A. Consiglio mentions a litany of supposed harmful effects of divorce but it is revealing that in his entire article, the phrase “broken families” is mentioned seven times whereas divorce is only mentioned once apart from the title. Like many who are embarked on the crusade against divorce, Mr Consiglio ignores the fact that “broken families” include separated couples and couples who managed to get an annulment, as well as couples who never got married in the first place but still started a family.

All the while the article implies that these are all the effects of divorce. One cannot help wondering whether this was a deliberate deception.

I am still waiting to see whether the new crusade will provide us with some arguments against divorce which are not equally applicable to separations, annulments and separation of cohabiting couples.
