Herman Grech, in his ‘A good year, bad year for...’ (The Sunday Times, January 2), suggested that maybe I am “thinking it was not such a good idea to give up [my] local parliamentary seat for Joseph Muscat”.

I wonder where Mr Grech got this idea from. Certainly not from me!

I was of the opinion, and still am, that giving up my seat for Dr Muscat to become Leader of the Opposition, upon his election as party leader, was one of the best decisions I took in my entire political career. My move has been decisive for party unity and for parliamentary democracy.

If I were to go back in time, I would do it again. The party needed it, the country needed it.

Editor’s note: The comment was not intended to be taken seriously. We hope that Boiler No 7, also mentioned in the feature, was not also offended.
