Pre-Christmas cheer was in short supply for passengers on a number of flights to and from Malta which were cancelled or delayed yesterday because of the extreme weather conditions in Europe.

The first flights cancelled were the Air Malta/Lufthansa morning flight to and from Frankfurt, Germany.

Ryanair’s flights to and from Pisa, Italy, were initially delayed before being cancelled. This was followed by Easyjet’s flights to and from Gatwick and Manchester.

Also delayed were the Air Malta/BMI flights to and from Heathrow and Gatwick and the Malta/Lufthansa flight to and from Frankfurt. The Gatwick flight was diverted to Stansted airport.

The big freeze has caused transport chaos across much of Europe, with heavy snowfall and sub-zero temperatures sweeping the continent in recent days.
