The government is to analyse a report presented to the Parliamentary Secretary for the Environment on the process the Malta Environment and Planning Authority should adopt to consider applications for filming in sensitive zones.

The report, drawn up by Kevin Aquilina and Simone Borg, was presented to Mario de Marco yesterday morning.

Dr Aquilina and Dr Borg were commissioned to examine the process being followed in the granting of permits for the shooting of films following the recent film set debacle at Dwejra.

The producers dumped truckloads of quarry sand at the Natura 2000 site in Gozo for the filming of The Game of Thrones, without using any underlay as had been specified in the permit.

Dr Aquilina and Dr Borg were requested to propose changes to strengthen the process to safeguard historical and natural heritage.

The government will be publishing the report in the coming days.
