The Malta Qualifications Council recently organised a seminar for 60 participants from the field of higher education and vocational education and training. The seminar was held at the Westin Dragonara Resort, St Julian’s.

Participants included academic staff from the University, the Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology and the Institute for Tourism Studies.

The aim of the seminar was to provide information about developments with respect to qualifications at European as well as national level.

The aspects highlighted included: the need to have all courses specified in terms of learning outcomes and to explain the implications and impact of the published referencing report on these particular institutions.

The seminar also served to provide training in: how to write and use learning outcomes; how the referencing report is to be applied to particular institutions; how the qualifications’ level referencing is to be carried out.

Speakers included Loukas Zahilas, a senior expert in qualifications and learning outcomes at the European Centre for the Development of Vocational Training. The seminar was chaired by Malta Qualifications Council chief executive James Calleja, who also delivered a presentation on the European Qualifications Framework.

This seminar formed part of a series of seminars co-financed by the European Commission. The Malta Qualifications Council was awarded a grant as part of the Lifelong Learning transversal programme Activities of EQF National Coordination Points with a view to implement the EQF at a national level.
