Gozo College Nadur Primary School recently received the Green Flag Award. The flag will be officially presented to the primary later this year, and will be flown at the school as an international symbol that it has reached international level in environmental education criteria.

The Green Flag award is an international recognition awarded to eco-schools that promoted an environmental and sustainable developmental education in their schools.

The eco-schools programme was launched in Malta in 2002 by Nature Trust (Malta). The programme, which is now run in over a hundred schools in Malta and Gozo, aims to raise students' awareness of sustainable development issues through classroom study and community action.

The Nadur primary eco-school committee is mostly composed of schoolchildren and also includes members of the staff and the local community.

Last year, the school received the Silver Award for its green initiatives. Environmental education forms an essential element in both the school development plan and the eco-school action plan.
