Opposition leader Joseph Muscat has had a meeting with Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd.

They discussed relations between the two countries and the Maltese community in Australia.

Dr Muscat is currently in Australia for a series of meetings with Maltese emigrants.

Mr Rudd said he appreciated the work of the Maltese community, and said the Maltese were widely respected and acknowledged as being hard working.

The Australian PM also looked forward to a further strengthening of relations between Malta and Australia.

Dr Muscat was accompanied by Opposition foreign affairs spokesman George Vella, Infrastructure spokesman Charles Buhagiar and Maltese-Australian Labour MP David Bradbury.
