The Saint Mary Mqabba Fireworks Group won this year's ground fireworks festival, held in Floriana on Saturday.

The prize adds another accolade to the group's list of victories, having already won numerous aerial fireworks prizes, both nationally and internationally.

The group was the first winner of the aerial fireworks competition in the Fireworks Festival held in Grand Harbour in 2006.

The following year they went on to beat competition from Italy, England, Romania, Spain, Japan and China to win the world fireworks championship held in Rome by the name of Caput Lucis (Capital of Light).

The Saint Mary Society in Mqabba is this year celebrating its centenary since it was founded under the name King George V Club in 1910 to celebrate the titular feast of Mqabba.
