Opposition environment spokesman Leo Brincat has complained that smoke is still coming out from the chimney of St Luke's Hospital, to the detriment of residents in the surrounding area and the owners of yachts in Msida creek.

He said that once the government had declared that the hospital incinerator had been dismantled, it should explain the use of the chimney. If the chimney was being used for the boilers that produced hot water for the social cases being housed at the former hospital, action should be taken to ensure that emissions respected health and environmental rules.

He recalled that the use of the incinerator had be stopped after the EU opened proceedings against Malta for infringement of environment directives.
