Drug mule jailed for 10 years
A Nigerian who imported drugs by swallowing 19 capsules of cocaine with a street value of more than €20,000 was today jailed for 10 years and fined €20,000.
Davidson Osiri, 34, was arrested in a hotel in Qawra in August last year after the police were tipped-off.
Mr Osiri had arrived from Spain after conspiring with another individual to start importing the drugs into Malta, the Attorney General had stated in the bill of indictment.
The police managed to apprehend Mr Osiri before the drugs were delivered. The Maltese man who was allegedly due to receive them is currently in the middle of proceedings against him related to the case.
Mr Osiri had pleaded guilty to conspiring to import and traffic drugs.

Whatever happens on this island never remains a secret. It is therefore strange for us to accept that the Police do not uncover to full extent the drug racket on this island. These foreign mules are the sacrificial lambs of people that give someone up to take pressure off their backs.
We hear about foreigners being caught trafficking drugs almost on a weekly basis, but it does not take rocket science to realise that if one is caught, 10 more pass through. This is how these things work!
The Police/Customs make their catch, get their publicity, the government gets plaudid for the efforts....and in the meantime the drug trade in Malta is still thriving!
A yacht comes under Dingli and unloads a box, the police intercept, but then it is found to be...'soap'. How convenient! Ah yes, these were locals not foreigners!

@Police Commissioner
A number of drug mules are being caught following tip offs. The only people who can probably do tip offs are people who are embroiled in the process themselves.
There are so many tip offs happening lately thay I am sure that there might be further motives for such tip offs.
Could it be, that on the same plan there would be more than one person carrying drugs, one having a substantial amount and the other (or others) having even higher amounts. Could it be that the only real reason for tip offs is to divert attention from the others carrying large amounts of drugs to drug mules. So that police focus on the tipped off person only and the others come out unhindered.
Where did I get this theory ? I was tipped off!

Can this peddler of filthy drugs now be deported back to Nigeria to serve his sentence there. Why should the Maltese taxpayers have to bear the costs of maintaining this person here for ten years?
