Twelve immigrants who live at the Marsa Open Centre have opted to clean up the area as part of a pilot project in collaboration with the Marsa council.

As part of the project, migrants who volunteer to take part will be cleaning up the road taking the opportunity to keep themselves busy while contributing to society. They will be working from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Marsa mayor Francis Debono said this initiative, from which the community was benefitting, also kept the migrants busy.

People who were unemployed, including the Maltese, should do some form of community work to give back something to the government.

Through the scheme the council would be making a financial donation to Fondazzjoni Suret il-Bniedem, which ran the Marsa Open Centre. The foundation would, in turn, pass on the money to the volunteers.
