Updated: Lady Gaga turns up wearing face mask... nothing to do with the 'flu
Lady Gaga, one of the Isle of MTV’s headline artistes turned up at a press conference this afternoon wearing a face mask, but said it had nothing to do with swine flu.
The eccentric singer, returning to Malta for her second concert, insisted the black plastic mask was an item of contemporary art.
It complemented her sexy black dress and massive patent leather booties.
Lady Gaga, who has enjoyed a year of huge success, said that Malta was now a place in her heart.
She expressed her remorse at the death of Michael Jackson.
“I grew up singing his songs, I don’t know what world I am making music to any more without Michael Jackson,” she said.
Her inspiration, she said, was to make the fans feel good about themselves, her music was not ego-centric but aimed at the fans.
She reflected on her video Paparazzi and said it had a special message about the media and social death. She said she had always lived an isolated life, a life of solitude totally committed to her work, and that was all she cared about.
Asked about her dress sense, she said she was currently obsessed with the clothes she found in sex shops.

At least she's wearing something. I was hoping that masks went out with Michael Jackson.
As for being inspired by slasher films.. the mind boggles.

I find more disgusting some of the local girls especially very young ones who their parents are very pleased to see them dressing up as too provocatively with a face full of make up. Compared to them make Lady Gaga is a saint.
So please all those desperate catholic moralist go and hide yourself in a church and let others live their life. I am flabbergasted at comments like that one of the bikini . OMG.

I had a marvellous time at the MTV concert yesterday I thought both Lady Gaga and BEP were great. I think Gaga's clothes were very imaginative original and fitting for a stage performance, she is following what others such as Madonna and Cher started before her. In her defence I think that the apparently 'unassuming' outfit Fergie was wearing was more revealing! less is more sometimes.
Yesterday's interpretation of Poker Face was a breath of fresh air..I'm sure the boys agree :))
Let us not conflate art with religious morals please! Ma jmurx next time they are refused access to take those beautiful shots from the bell tower.

All you people squirting religion and morality from each pore of your saintly body, please give us a break from all the bull crap you come up with on every occasion. You preach your catholicism as it was extremist Talibanism or some other oppressive religion. Religion is just for one's personal self and everyone can find his/her own religion. The ultimate goal is what makes you happy that counts. So please stop harassing people with your negative attitude!!!! Be positive, think positive!!

Lady Gaga is soooooo COOOOOOOL!!!
Hope she keeps us giving more hits for more years to come. Her style is so original, outrages and anti-conformotave.
Keep it up Gaga...we love you!!

I am no superman but confirm that these trends do NOT influence my beliefs, morals or my behaviour. My 16 year old daughter wears a bikini @the beach but not at a concert. She knows the difference between one and the other, not through MTV, Xarabank or Jerry Springer, but through normal common sense, discussion with us her parents, through general interaction, at school, throughout. Some are offended by Lady Gaga's clothing, and others might be "offended" by over-piety. If people are to co-exist happily we need to be a bit more tolerant. Are we seriously thinking that our teenagers cannot realise when they hear something stupid or rather "showbizzy" when they hear it? Do we honestly expect all our teenagers to go shopping for clothes in sex shops because they read this line? Let us give our youngsters a bit more credit. They can well decide what is morally good and bad. Yes guide them and discuss with them, but let's treat them with the respect they deserve. My grandma was shocked when she saw Freddy Mercury in tights and a bare chest. I assure you i do not dress so to go to work!

Wheter she has some bad attitudes and tendencies one thing I'm sure about. She sings and plays the piano wonderfully ! Thumbs up for her performance yesterday :)

I wonder if these concerts promote some different morals. Clearly as lady Gaga (not Lady) does not dress lady-like at all.
As she said, on her own admission that she likes to shop at sex clothes shops, does that not mean anything to you?
It is a show of liberty, of how anyone can dress, to flirt, and to play dirty. Do you not see this?
Are we therefore not promoting this acceptance to our children, this sort of behaviour?
Take the bikinis, in the 70s in Malta they were a rarity, but in the 90s not so much. Now we have naked beaches, what is next? See it in this progression, and if we do not stop it now, soon we will accept orgies and incest as though it would be the order of the day!

Why we have to mix up beliefs and Religion with an MTV concert is truly confusing. I am a middle aged, strongly Catholic, happily married man with two teenagers aged 16 and 13. I attended the GREAT concert yesterday with all my family. My children get their morals through interaction discussion & hopefully good parenting. They are NOT idiots & know that this is nothing but a performance. God forbid if we were to build morals on viewing a concert!
I grew up to music by Pink Floyd, Queen, LedZeppelin, Rolling Stones etc. My parents used to tell me that this music was crap!! Each generation will see its own as the best. I opt to chose differently and try to appreciate ALL music and naturally other aspects of life. Lady Gaga has generally good music. Yesterday's different interpretation of Poker Face definitely gives a reply to people wanting to dismiss her as a remarkable and talented artist. If she does not appeal to you, simple, don't listen to her music.
Isle of MTV concert, besides being a massive brilliant marketing exercise for Malta, is truly a remarkable concert. This year's was by far the best. Well done all involved.

Sa fl'ahhar!!! Something we cannot pin on either GonziPN or PL's Joseph.
Honestly guys, some bloggers really need to get a life. The teen age is well in the past for me, but I am not adverse to watching MTV every now and then. What's the problem in that? I'd like to bop along with the tunes that pull my chain, and really do not give a shoot about their content.
If the singers involve an attractive female dressed in a skimpy dress - cool. Absolutely no problem with that. At least they are putting on a show, not walking outside in ordinary life, and show some dress sense not like some local specimens - Just try to count the spare tyres wobbling above that hipster before you throw up, and what about the very young youth dressed like sluts and prositiutes? Basta mal-moda!
Youth exploitation? Possibly, but aren't parents there to guide their fledglings in their early life on the proper morals and canons upon which a proper upbringing depends?

Lady GaGa was the best, followed by black eyed peas. If you don't like her, suit yourself but don't diss her or try to stop her because she's unique and has amazing talent. Seriously that's so closed minded of you guys!

Where are the likes of John Lennon, Freddie Mercury, Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson and countless others? Today's stars are a bunch of talentless idiots, I pity today's teens who have to grow up listening to such crap, they are forced to listen to noise instead of melody and music.

Did your religion teach you to judge books by its cover?
Seriously, this country needs to mature. What is an artist without an image?
And what's wrong by wearing a mask?
It's art, image, and stage image!!
Honestly, I find it more strange for a man to wear long robes like the priests do, than a woman wearing a mask...

Hands off Lady Gaga, her outfit is much more prudent than the ones we see on most wanna-be stars here in Malta. Ok, that face mask was somewhat exorbitant... Anyway, let's enjoy today's MASSIVE event!!

What do you expect from MTV? Serious artists? If you do some serious research about what serious people and researchers think about MTV you find out that it is aimed at teenagers and it is meant to take advantage of the fact that at this age all hormones especially the sex ones are messed up. If you watch MTV and the music videos you see that it portrays the woman as an object, waiting for a man to just make use of her. Can you imagine how appealing this is to teenage boys? MTV does not stand for values or anything, it's just meant to make money by exploiting young people.

What has all this got to do with the article? In which way did kids and god come into this? can't you just let everyone be and enjoy music and artists the way they are and not always criticising everything? and if you don't like her can't you just change channel when you hear her song? anyway probably you'd be the first to tap your feet with the beat

Sorry to burst your bubble. Catholicism is not the only religion in the world. Just as anyone has the right to have his/her opinion, so should everyone have the right to choose their religion or not to embrace one at all.
The way you penned your comment reflects the intolerance to other 'trains of thought' by the main religions.
Matthew Bonnici

@Ernest Vella
Please keep your religious views to yourself and do not make it sound as if your opinion should be the governing opinion.
@ Martin saliba - WELL SAID
General comment....
this is entertainment and the industry demands that there is diversity.... this is entertainment so for everyone's sake the conservative crowd who is not attracted to change or modern entertainment need not express their opinion as they are definately not up to date with the modern world.....
Each artist develops his style and might i add that Lady Gaga with her controversial and radical style has managed to be rather successful..... for this she deserves respect as an artist....
If you dont want your children exposed to this do not allow them to watch music channels, hear radio stations or go to concerts and have them grow up listening to Frank Sinatra.
