Promoting workers' mobility

The Employment and Training Corporation and the European Employment Service (Eures) in Malta recently held a job fair to promote work opportunities and workers' mobility in Europe.

The Eures Job Fair plays a key role in encouraging labour mobility in Europe. Europeans have traditionally been reluctant to move for work, even though mobility encourages better skills, better standards of living and a higher rate of economic growth.

The fair was designed to explain these benefits to employers and employees and give them the opportunity to meet and talk to each other. It also provided factual and unbiased information about moving to work in European countries.

Eures, set up in 1993, is a Europe-wide employment service that operates through the public employment services of the EU and European Economic Area member states. Eures Malta started its operations in 2004.

Eures has a human network of more than 750 Eures advisers across Europe, who are in daily contact with jobseekers and employers.

The Eures website features about 1.2 million job vacancies, 250,000 CVs and over 10,000 employer registrations.

More details are available at http://eures.europa.eu or at www.euresmalta.com.

Anyone wishing to know more about employment opportunities in a European country is asked to contact Eures on freephone 8007 6505 or by email at eures.etc@gov.mt.
