Tracey Ainsley from Northumbria University was recently in Malta to launch the M.Sc. course in Information Management. Ms Ainsley also met some of the students studying programmes of Northumbria University.

Technological advances mean that libraries and information services in the public and private sector are changing dramatically and offer a wide range of attractive, challenging and rewarding career opportunities.

This course exists because library and information professionals need to have skills and experience in information handling, IT and management, as well as strong interpersonal skills.

Future Focus Ltd is the local representative of Northumbria University, which has over 500 undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Many students choose Northumbria because of its reputation as one of Britain's best modern universities and for the special importance it gives to providing their students with the knowledge and practical skills employers are looking for. The recent Times league table results ranked Northumbria as the top new university for Information Management.

This course can be undertaken through distance learning with local tutorial support. After a period of around two years of study, students will not only possess an internationally recognised qualification but also strong skills and experience in managing information efficiently and effectively.

These courses are also approved by the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP). Students can also obtain local funding to cover the costs of the programme under the STEPS scheme launched recently by the Education Department.
