While I agree that civic responsibilities are different from religious responsibilities, Fr Gouder expressed the Church's teaching with reference to sin. If something goes against the Church's teaching this is considered sin.

Fr Peter Serracino Inglott chose to express a different opinion on divorce even though he too is a member of the clergy.

Why should Fr Gouder be censured for expressing his opinion? This should not be a case of two weights and two measures. Besides, Fr Gouder also argued that he is against divorce for the common good.
