As the divorce debate is in full swing, I thought I'd share a few tips on how you can agree with divorce to the extent that you might even convince a few souls.

Firstly, when the competition starts quoting statistics which show that marriage is a very stable institution that we should do our outmost to protect, simply point out that the majority in Malta agree with implementing divorce without actually mentioning any reliable statistic or reference.

After that, you'll get confronted by the so-called Catholics and their Catholic Church who will ask you to support the common good.

All you have to do when this occurs, is mock the way the Church gives out annulments (make sure you mention that these are given out left, right and centre for some extra effect; never mind the fact that if this were true then in reality, there would be no one left to divorce) and also bring out that some priests are given the right to stop being a priest (make sure you don't mention that this is, in fact, an extremely rare occurrence and also used in very exceptional cases; just like annulment).

Next, don't forget to mention something vague about people shoving their opinion down your throat and by now you should have already beaten your opponent at the debate.

Just for good measure, mention that with divorce, the act of terminating a life-long marriage, marriages will bloom like never before.

Like this, you would have presented a great number of obviously logical arguments and convinced quite a good number of people to support you.

Finally, now that you're getting your wish of introducing divorce, make sure you've already thought of what Malta should discuss next when we discover that divorce was a total failure and made things worse: I suggest, polygamy.
