A promising young Gozitan artist recently completed an intensive course in oil painting at the internationally renowned Lorenzo de' Medici art institute in Florence.

Paul Falzon was born in 1983 and is a graduate in History of Art from the University of Malta. He is known for his work on a series of banners depicting the life of St John the Baptist, the patron saint of Xewkija. Other works of his include a representation of the Baptist that is over six metres high and embellishes the village square during the feast in June.

A number of portraits and paintings by the artist can be found in private collections, both locally and abroad.

In Florence, Falzon was interviewed by the BBC for a documentary on the artistic learning opportunities in Florence.

At Lorenzo de Medici, Falzon came first in class and received an individual mention of merit from his tutor, Mirella Ferrari.
