Microsoft Malta Ltd in collaboration with the IT Ministry has launched a free training programme leading to Microsoft certification for Maltese women.

The programme was launched by IT Minister Austin Gatt and Veronika Prikrylova, general manager, Microsoft market development, Central and Eastern Europe.

Dr Gatt said this programme was meant to address an imbalance that existed between the number of women and men in IT services.

Ms Prikrylova said at a press conference that ICT in general was seen as more of an opportunity for men, but Microsoft, through its Unlimited Potential Programme, was working to improve the participation of women in the ICT workforce.

The first course will be for those with little or no ICT knowledge. It will lead to Microsoft Digital Literacy Certification. Participants can they follow more detailed courses.
