The Rural Affairs Ministry has condemned the arson attack on three cars belonging to birdwatchers, which took place in Buskett yesterday morning, saying this was a cowardly, criminal act.
It pointed out that this attack took place in a protected area which included trees that were several hundred years old. It was only thanks to the prompt intervention of the fire brigade that the fierce flames had not spread to other sections of the park.
"It is shameful that intolerance towards those who appreciate birds in their natural environment has now targeted those carrying out scientific work which is indispensable for the protection of these birds,” the ministry said.
The ministry expressed its solidarity with the birdwatchers and urged them to continue with their work. It augured that the arsonists would be caught as soon as possible.
