The Circus Animal Rights Coalition has announced plans for a protest in Floriana on Wednesday against the aquatic circus.

Coalition representative Lana Turner argued at a press conference that circus animals are forced to perform tricks to the detriment of their physical and mental health. She said such tricks go against the animals' instincts and behaviour. Moreover animals frequently get injured while practicing.

Ms Turner expressed satisfaction that a number of schools are refusing to take children to the circus, and added that in just two school days the coalition had collected more than 1,500 signatures from students and teachers who do not agree that animals should be used in such shows.

The protest will start at 6 p.m. opposite the Phoenicia Hotel.
