New Zealand want to avoid a repetition of the confusion caused by the similarities in their playing strip with that of Scotland during their 40-0 victory at Murrayfield on Sunday.

New Zealand had to wear an alternate strip of metallic grey and black shirts because their usual all-black strip clashed with Scotland's traditional navy blue shirts.

However, Scotland took to the field with a patchwork navy blue, grey and white shirt that was difficult to distinguish from that of their opponents.

"It was difficult for the players and probably difficult for the spectators but not much could be done at the 11th hour," New Zealand team manager Darren Shand said.

"The teams submitted jerseys a long time ago and it is really up to the tournament organisers to determine what sides wear. I know that the commissioner for the match was a bit concerned on match day but he was pretty powerless to change things.

"We are not complaining, but there has been a problem. We can't turn back time and we don't want it to happen again."

Full-back Nick Evans said the similarity in team strips had created confusion among the players.

"At times it caused a few problems," he said. "The jerseys were a lot similar but that part of it wasn't our call so we just got on with it."

The All Blacks also expressed their concern about having to train with replica balls that are not the same as those used in the matches.

"Prior to the tournament we received some balls that were supposedly the balls we would play with and we felt they weren't," said Shand.

"It is important you play with what you train with.

"We felt they were the replica balls that are quite different from the match balls. The material seems to be a bit harder and certainly not as responsive as a match ball."
