School leavers who have a moderate intellectual impairment are being offered the possibility of joining a one-year programme at MCAST to teach them independent living skills and sample vocational training programmes of interest to them.

The Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology (MCAST), in close collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Employment, is offering the 'Pathway to Independent Living' programme this scholastic year. Students who have completed fifth form secondary education last June are eligible to apply.

Applicants will have to undergo an interview to assess whether they would benefit from the programme. They will be expected to have basic literacy and numeric skills and be able to interact and participate in group activities in a classroom setting. Where suitable, students on the programme will have the possibility of following modules in one of MCAST's institutes and of actively participating in the wider community.

As from tomorrow application forms will be available online from www.mcast.edu.mt and/or MCAST's Corradino office. The closing date is Monday, September 17, following which interviews will be held to select suitable candidates.

More information may be obtained from MCAST's Inclusive Education Unit on tel: 2143-2754 or by e-mail: inclusiveducation@mcast.edu.mt.
