Peter Pullicino yesterday sealed his switch to Marsaxlokk after signing a three-and-a-half-year deal with the Premier League leaders.

Having joined Msida St Joseph from Hibernians last summer, Pullicino was not expected to move in the January transfer window but an attractive bid by Marsaxlokk induced the Saints and the player to review their positions.

Transfer negotiations were finalised on Wednesday.

Shaun Bajada, Marsaxlokk's left-footed midfielder, has joined Msida on loan until the end of the season as part of the deal.

Contacted by The Times, Pullicino, 30, confirmed that he had inked a long-term deal with Marsaxlokk.

"I can confirm that I've joined Marsaxlokk until 2010," Pullicino said.

"I was very happy at Msida and I had no real ambition to leave but the opportunity to join Marsaxlokk was too good to turn down.

"Marsaxlokk are an ambitious club and so am I. With them, I'll have a very good chance of winning the league title again."

The capture of Pullicino represents another important signing by Marsaxlokk, currently eight points ahead of second-placed Msida at the top of the standings.

The club is effectively run by Victor Sciriha and his son Mark who occupies the president's seat.

Pullicino is expected to make his Marsaxlokk debut in tomorrow's Premier League match against Hibernians, his former club.

Meanwhile, Hibs are set to transfer wing-back Antoine Zahra on loan to St George's. Zahra has been unable to reclaim a regular place in Hibs' first team after returning from a long injury lay-off.

An Austrian striker is currently having a trial with Marsaxlokk.

Monesterolo in Kuwait

Sebastian Monesterolo was yesterday expected to complete his move to a Kuwaiti club after undergoing a medical on his arrival to the Gulf state.

The Argentine striker is set to sign a contract with an unnamed club until the end of the season, leaving Maltese football after 12 months with Valletta FC.

The Citizens are already looking for a suitable replacement and informed sources yesterday told The Times they had established contact with four foreign players.
