Marsa played Overseas in the Winter League last Saturday.

Overseas won the toss and elected to bowl first. With Marsa missing a couple of players, Overseas were determined to take advantage of their opponents' problems.

The Sacco brothers Mark and Ronnie opened the batting. Mike Smith bowled well as runs proved hard to come by for the Marsa batsmen.

Sunny Krishna, an improving seam bowler, was not on the spot having 43 runs hit of his three overs mostly of wides where he could not control the swing of the new ball.

Ronnie Sacco was the first wicket to fall for 11 runs. His brother Mark was to continue batting up to the end of the innings, scoring a patient 51 runs that kept Marsa in the game.

Robert Krishna scored six runs and Alan Swift seven. Javed Shah chipped in with 23 runs.

For the second week running, the Overseas gave away a lot of extras and helped Marsa total 183 runs. For Overseas, an encouraging bowling performance from youngster Mike Jones had him take three wickets.

In reply, Thomas Jones and Mike Smith had an opening stand of 40 runs before Jones was bowled out for 14. Smith was next to go when the score was on 95 runs. He was the first wicket of an amazing bowling spell from Mark Sacco who ended with the best bowling figures of five wickets for 26 runs from five overs. His efforts definitely won Marsa the game.

Stuart Thompson top scored for Overseas with 66 runs not out. Unfortunately for him, his partners could not stay with him. Jonathon Tully scored 19 runs while Tony Slater amassed 15, among the better scorers. Overseas were bowled out in the 17th over and only accumulated 171 runs.

Marsa won by 12 runs and earned nine points for the win while Overseas only managed one.

Next Saturday, the nursery/academy will be from 9.30 till 11.30 a.m. followed by an exhibition game at noon. Saturday's match is aimed at helping members of the public learn more about cricket.
