In Ukraine: Ukrainian premier league sides Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk and Kharkiv Metalist set a national record with three red cards and 10 yellow cards in a weekend match. Metalist beat Dnipro 1-0 with a goal four minutes from half time after a series of incidents that prompted the sendings off on Sunday. On 29 minutes, Dnipro's Severin Gancharzhik collided with Metalist player Nazarenko in an aggressive tackle and was in turn hit by Dnipro's Andriy Rusol who came to the aid of his team-mate. Nazarenko struck the referee in a subsequent melee. All three were sent off.

Gronkjaer: Copenhagen winger Jesper Gronkjaer has recovered from a groin injury just in time to play Benfica in the Champions League Group F match today, but the Danish champions will miss two other players. Copenhagen travelled to Lisbon without Norwegian left back Andre Bergdolmo, who has a groin injury, and Ghanaian midfielder Razak Pimpong, who is sick.

Pitch invasion: Frans Adelaar has stepped down as coach of struggling Dutch first division club ADO Den Haag after hundreds of angry fans invaded the pitch on Sunday to protest against the side's poor results. Bottom-placed ADO said in a statement yesterday that the incidents made it impossible for Adelaar to continue his work.

Injuries: Brazil striker Ronaldo and former England captain David Beckham are injured and have been left out of Real Madrid's squad for today's Champions League match at home to Olympique Lyon. Ronaldo strained the lateral ligament in his left knee in a King's Cup match against third division Ecija 12 days ago while Beckham has not trained with the team for the past week because of an inflamed left knee. Midfielder Guti and Italy defender Fabio Cannavaro, who will be named European Footballer of the Year at the start of next week, were both included in the squad despite picking up minor injury niggles during Saturday's 3-1 win over Racing Santander.
