The transformation of Cospicua Gardens into a recreation zone was intended at striking a balance between a natural afforestation area and a leisure park for families, Ninu Zammit, Minister for Resources and Infrastructure, said when he inspected the final phase of the works on the project.

The works, undertaken by the ministry's own skilled employees, are expected to be completed by year's end.

The project consists of four squares, two of which are ready and the third nearing completion. They are linked by pathways that have stone paving.

The gardens will have 13 gazebos and over 400 trees.

An attractive feature will be miniature models of three Cottonera cities that will be displayed at the squares.

Mr Zammit thanked the Cospicua local council for its cooperation in the implementation of the project. The council will be forking out Lm15,000 of the Lm250,000 the project will cost.
