I have also recently returned form a very enjoyable holiday in Malta, staying with a friend in Attard.

I agree with the letter about road signs in Malta leaving a lot to be desired (The Sunday Times, October 5).

He told me that what I didn't realise was that the Maltese driver is a very special breed of motorist with exceptional eyesight who can not only read road signs in very small print from a great distance, but also signs almost totally obscured by foliage.

Maltese drivers also have 'extra-sensory perception' that gives them the ability to read signs that appear unexpectedly on a wall, or on the road surface.

On driving to the airport to return home I was thinking that at least the airport was clearly signposted for the visiting driver with only 'normal' senses.

I was making good progress following the large signs until they suddenly disappeared - and began to panic.

Luckily my wife, like the Maltese driver, also has exceptional eyesight and extra-sensory perception - and pointed out that the 'Airport' sign had been replaced by a small aeroplane symbol.

Malta is a great holiday destination - but I'd rather drive in the UK.
