The Prime Minister has inaugurated an extension of The Limestone Heritage, the attraction sited in a disused quarry near Siggiewi where visitors can experience how generations of Maltese made use of stone.

The extension includes an auditorium and a multi-function hall which can cater for 200 visitors every 15 minutes.

The Limestone Heritage was opened four years ago and features displays and dioramas charting the use of stone from early prehistoric times.

Dr Gonzi congratulated founder-director Emmanuel Baldacchino for the success which the attraction has turned out to be.

He said The Limestone Heritage was welcoming an ever-increasing number of tourists and had proved to be very popular with thousands of schoolchildren who had learned to appreciate their forefathers' hardship and sacrifices.

Welcoming guests, Mr Baldacchino thanked the government and the Malta Tourism Authority for having helped secure EU funding for the project. He also thanked tour operators for their support.
