A Hamrun man was yesterday charged with stealing a man's cheque book, forging his signature onto a cheque and defrauding him of over Lm1,000.

Magistrate Abigail Lofaro heard Joseph Spiteri, 30, plead not guilty to committing the crimes on and before December 2005.

Police Inspector Kevin Borg prosecuted.

Lawyers José Herrera and Roberto Montalto were defence counsel.
