Fowler: Robbie Fowler is to sign a new one-year contract with Liverpool, the club said yesterday. The 31-year-old former England striker made a surprise return to Anfield on a free transfer from Manchester City in January and has scored four goals in 15 games, mostly as substitute.

Injury crisis: Tottenham could be without six first team players when they face West Ham tomorrow. Michael Carrick and Robbie Keane are struggling with ankle injuries and Mido still has a knee problem while Paul Stalteri has joined Jermaine Jenas and Ledley King on the sidelines. A Tottenham win guarantees fourth spot and a place in the Champions League qualifying rounds unless fifth-placed Arsenal win the Champions League final on May 17.

Briegel: Former Germany international Hans-Peter Briegel has extended his coaching contract with Albania for two years. Briegel has been coaching Albania for three years and will now continue through the 2008 European Championship qualifiers. Albania's soccer federation said yesterday it had agreed to Briegel's terms and a contract would be signed at the end of May.

Rangers: Rangers fans launched a share-save scheme yesterday designed to raise money for players and give supporters a greater say in how the Scottish Premier League club is run. The scheme involves supporters paying at least £10 a month into a savings plan in return for an entitlement to ordinary shares. It is hoped the initiative will eventually raise £5.6 million for the club's player pool and youth development.

Torres: Spain striker Fernando Torres has said he is not about to leave Atletico Madrid despite seeing his side fail once again to achieve a place in Europe. The 22-year-old, has caught the eye of a number of clubs in England and Italy. "The press are always talking about me going and recently the speculation has been stronger. But my plan is to stay here for the next three years."

Ipatinga: Third division Ipatinga stunned Vanderlei Luxemburgo's Santos by knocking them out of the Copa Brasil on penalties following a 2-2 aggregate draw. Ipatinga won the shootout 5-3 after Kleber missed Santos's second attempt and will face Flamengo in the semi-finals of the competition, which is seen as the quickest route to the Libertadores Cup. Flamengo qualified after a goalless draw away to Atletico Mineiro sent them through 4-1 on aggregate. Fluminense also went through by beating Cruzeiro 1-0 to complete a 4-2 aggregate win, midfielder Marcelo scrambling home the only goal in the 78th minute.
