Many Maltese must feel elated following the news that Arnold Cassola, secretary general of the European Green Party, has been elected to the Italian Parliament on the Unione del Centro Sinistra ticket.

I, for one, firmly believe that Prof. Cassola has achieved that which should have been meritoriously his in Malta's first European Parliamentary elections held on May 1, 2004.

Fellow Maltese - excluding, perhaps, those who, notwithstanding their so-called social-democrat credentials, were outrageously and vehemently against him exercising his right as a Maltese citizen to vote in the last election - must feel proud of Prof. Cassola and hasten to wish him all success in this innovative and highly challenging Italo-Maltese venture and, why not, in all future Maltese electoral campaigns on behalf of Malta's no-nonsense electorate.

Indeed, green is beautiful!
