A healthy breakfast will be offered weekly to all children attending government schools in Gozo as from this month in a bid to promote healthy eating among the younger generation.

The initiative was announced during an event entitled Healthy Breakfast organised last week by the Gozo college which groups together Gozo's schools.

Minister for Gozo Giovanna Debono said modern lifestyles have led to the adoption of a less healthy eating pattern. Events such as Healthy Breakfast served to draw attention towards food choices that could be not only healthier but also tastier, she said.

During the event, which was organised in collaboration with the Health Promotion Unit, Year 4 government primary school students in Gozo were treated to a complementary healthy breakfast that was sponsored by various local entities. Displays of alternative healthy food, including bread, vegetables, fruit, beverages and other possible snacks were set up.
