The London-based Catholic Truth Society announced that it will be publishing the new Compendium of the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
The bishops' conferences of England and Wales, and of Scotland, have appointed the society to be the exclusive publishers in Britain of the recently completed English-language translation of the Compendium.
Publication is set for March 31. The 200-page synthesis of the 1992 Catechism of the Catholic Church has been prepared by the Vatican to promote wide popular access to the teachings and spiritual wisdom of the Church.
The new compendium consists of 598 questions and answers on the Catholic faith, together with an index. It includes 14 colour masterpieces of Christian art, and a section containing prayers.
The question naturally crops up: when will we have a Maltese edition? In these pages we have noted more than once that, since the death of Mgr Joseph Lupi, the Church in Malta has not managed to find a replacement.
Mgr Lupi was a man with many talents, including that of being a very quick translator. Malta was one of the first countries in the world to publish the Catechism in Maltese. We hope that it will not be one of the last to publish the compendium.
