There should not be much of an issue on how to spell euro. It is spelt in the same way in all EU countries except Greece. The spelling does not rob anything of the Maltese identity. One should insist more on the issue of language use in Maltese language newspapers. I prefer not to read them because all the invented and massacred words make me sick.

I really love our mother tongue, Maltese, but every day it is being degraded more and more. The Akkademja tal-Malti and other groups that support the Maltese language should defend it and put a stop on the nonsense spelling of words like cerpersin, bagit, plajers and so on and so forth.

One should find better words to refer to such notions in Maltese. Even when we want to define car parts such as dashboard, silencer, etc. I am sure that Maltese language lovers are equipped enough to find a solution. I have my own ideas for alternatives of these words that I intend to send to all local newspapers that use the Maltese language. The groups that promote Maltese should keep an eye on other types of mass media too, such as TV and radio.

One final appeal to true Maltese who want to speak genuine Maltese: use Maltese words in your daily conversations. While speaking Maltese say mitjar not airport, parrukkier/a not hairdresser, mahbub/a not boy/girlfriend.
