Proposals over pension reforms are practically ready and they should put people's minds at rest, according to Nationalist Party leader Lawrence Gonzi.

Dr Gonzi was addressing members at the annual general meeting of the Sliema PN committee.

He said that while changes were not expected in pensions for those aged 55 and over, people aged 45 and over would be guaranteed a good standard of living when they reach pensionable age. Dr Gonzi as Prime Minister had last November 1, tabled in Parliament the final report on pension reform submitted to the government by a Working Group on June 30.

The Pensions Working Group had revised many of the original proposals made in the 2004 White Paper, taking into consideration much of the feedback received during the subsequent 12 months.
