A Syrian man was yesterday given a one-year jail term suspended for 18 months after he pleaded guilty to forgery and fraud.

Magistrate Abigail Lofaro heard Mohammed Al Zamati Al Barbar, 38, who resides in Zebbug, plead guilty to forging an HSBC cheque, defrauding Martin Vella of Lm1,300 and misappropriation on August 28, 2001.

The magistrate noted that Al Barbar was willing to pay back the money defrauded and had a clean criminal record. Police Inspector Bernard Zarb prosecuted.
