I read with interest the letter by Reginald Mifsud with reference to Malta's national day(s).

I agree entirely that we, as a nation, should do away with the numerous national days and instead celebrate meaningfully one national day in the year.

(Are we going to have yet another national day to celebrate as from next year when we join the European Union?)

September 8 is obviously the day we should really celebrate. With reference to Mr Mifsud's last paragraph, where he pointed out that his youngest son has been born by design (induced labour) on September 21 and was therefore a little reluctant to suggest September 8, I am personally even more keen to suggest this latter date because my daughter was born (also induced) on September 8, albeit not in Malta but at the British Military Hospital in Muenster, Germany.

(PS: Reginald Mifsud and I are related - we are brothers!)
