Former Federation of Industry president Joseph Zammit Tabona has been appointed chairman of the Malta Development Corporation.

He succeeds Lawrence Zammit, who was recently appointed chairman of Air Malta.

Mr Zammit Tabona is also expected to become the first chairman of Malta Enterprise, which will bring together the MDC, the Institute for the Promotion of Small Enterprise and Malta Export Trading Corporation.

The new deputy chairman of MDC is George Borg, who is the chairman of IPSE.

The other board members are Malta Financial Services Authority chairman Joe Bannister, the director general of the GRTU, General Retailers and Traders Union, Vince Farrugia, Chamber of Commerce president Reginald Fava, FOI president Anton Borg, David Newman, Yvonne Pulis and Paul Zahra.

In the first six months of the year the MDC approved projects which, according to Finance Minister John Dalli, are expected to employ 1,700 people and generate investment of more than Lm20 million over the next three years.

Over the last four years the MDC has approved 185 projects with the creation of 3,500 new jobs.

Reno Camilleri has been confirmed as chairman of the Malta Statistics Authority. Alfred Camilleri, Benny Borg Bonello, Emanuel P. Delia, Alfred Demarco, Joseph Falzon, Moira Catania and Edward Zammit are board members.
