The Under-11 team from the Naxxar Lions Youth Nursery made its debut in international competitions when taking part in the well-known 'Ian Rush Trophy', held in Aberystwyth, Wales.

The team, under the guidance of head coach Joseph Pullicino and his assistant Saviour Farrugia, performed exceptionally well, winning all six matches played in the second phase, scoring 21 goals and conceding only one.

According to the tournament rules, Naxxar Lions had to play a final encounter against the second-placed team in the group.

Their final game of the tournament was against Irby FC from England.

Naxxar won the match 1-0 with substitute Warren Cardona striking the winner to seal his team's success.

Naxxar Lions' results of the second phase were - vs Tywyn 3-0; vs SC Select 5-0; vs Pont Teifi 7-0; Irby FC 3-1; Bishop's Castle 2-0.

Final - Naxxar Lions vs Irby FC 1-0.

The Naxxar Lions Nursery resumes training for season 2003-2004 early next month.
