Dream Theater's Malta concert has been switched to a new venue after an unprecedented demand for tickets, the organisers said on Thursday.

The progressive metal pioneers will now perform at St George's Square in Valletta after the planned concert at the Mediterranean Conference Centre with a capacity of over 1,600, sold out in less than 48 hours.

“We knew a Dream Theater gig would attract the discerning rock fans. But to have it sell out so early is beyond our expectations and encourages us to think even bigger,” said Lou Bondi, artistic director for Rock’n Malta.

Dream Theater have achieved a string of unmistakable melodies, progressive instrumentation and aggressive heaviness unrivaled in the hard rock scene.

James LaBrie (vocals), John Petrucci (guitars), Jordan Rudess (keyboards), John Myung (bass), and Mike Mangini (drums) share a unique bond with one of the most passionate fan bases around the globe as evidenced by their two Grammy Award nominations and 15 million records sold worldwide.

Their Malta performance will be supported by local bands Mirage, Nomadtson and Ferret.

Rock’n Malta said current ticket holders who purchased tickets at the former venue remain valid, where ticket types and seating placement will be mirrored at Pjazza San Gorg with elevated seating.

Tickets to the new venue will be released in two weeks and will be available from www.kultura.mt
