A group of foreign adults and children resident in Malta have been taught Maltese, English as well as waste separation at source after attending classes organised by the Sliema local council in cooperation with St Clare College and the National Literacy Agency.

The €30,000 co-financed EU educational project tapped into the EU’s Asylum Migration Integration Fund programme. It was the first time the council benefitted from such an EU-funded project.

During the certificate awards ceremony, held at the college’s Sliema primary, Education Minister Evarist Bartolo encouraged other councils to learn from the Sliema council’s experience and engage in social and community-based projects that can tap EU funding.

Sliema councillor Paul Radmilli was the project leader.
