Unemployment down 9 per cent in March
Registered unemployed dropped among all age groups
The number of people registering for employment in March stood at 1,772, dropping by 9.3 per cent when compared to the corresponding month in 2018.
The National Statistics Office said that data provided by Jobsplus indicated a decline of 173 persons registering under Part I and a decrease of nine among those registering under Part II of the unemployment register in March, when compared to the same month last year.
The number of registered unemployed dropped among all age groups. Registrants for work decreased when compared to March 2018, irrespective of how long they had been registering for work. The largest decrease in registrants was recorded among persons who had been registering for more than one year.
The number of persons with a disability who were registering for work decreased by 67 when compared to the previous year, reaching 219. Men accounted for 69.4 per cent of total registrants with a disability.
The largest share of men and women on the unemployment register sought occupations as clerical support workers with 18.2 per cent and 39.1 per cent respectively.
