Our people are being gripped by a great worry: what is life, what is a person, what is the transcendent and God? The deeper reason for this is that we are being untrue to and disintegrated within ourselves.

Life has become an intense continuing struggle between our prides and God. We are, obviously, uncreated. We are who we are by our innate powers. We have become divine, no need of dogmas. Poor Adam and Eve.

One has only to switch on the TV, read any newspaper, to be amazed at the results of our divinity. Wonderful buildings, Babylonian towers, technical sophistication and riches unheard of within easy reach. Amid all this, little people remain frustrated, always in a hurry, harried, with no time to waste, exhausted, despising the way they are living and hating themselves. Hearts of flesh are becoming hearts of stone, always at war with God who abides in our unconscious, calling us to our senses.

No wonder that many do not want children; we do not have a heart or time for them. Children challenge our hearts. We prefer a simplistic way of living to a realistic and mature one. Children obstruct our ambitions and pride. The modern world is offering us all its pleasures but they are not for free. Hearts become unfeeling like those of our great heroes depicted on violent TV films.

The present debate about abortion will have little or no effect either way. The reason is that, in our depths, we have chosen other ‘children’, other ‘babies’, that is riches, prosperity, honours, promotions, success, power – dead ‘babies’.

How different from heart-warming babies, forming hearts to unconditional love and self-giving, affection and joy. The condemnation of abortion has no effect on people who do not love their own lives and themselves.
