The National Library of Malta is today holding its fifth public lecture on ‘Early Buildings on the Xiberras Peninsula and the sale of Plots in Valletta’.

The lecture will be delivered by Stanley Fiorini, Professor Emeritus and Senior Fellow of the University of Malta. Fiorini’s lecture will focus on the first buildings of Valletta highlighting trends and patterns in the acquisition of property from 1569 to 1576.

It will also delve into the Order of St John’s sale of plots on the Xiberras peninsula as documented by several notarial contracts of Notary Placido Abela. This lecture is part of a series of eight public lectures which the National Library is holding for 2018-2019 focusing on Malta’s urban landscapes, archives and archaeology.

The series entitled ‘Cities, Harbours, and Artefacts: transformations of an early modern landscape’ is coordinated by Mevrick Spiteri and Maroma Camilleri.

The lecture, which is free of charge, is being held at the National Library, Valletta today at 6.30pm. Further information can be found on the event page: https://www.facebook.com/events/328218471157099. For queries, e-mail: events.library@gov.mt.
