Metaphors, images, figurative language and rhyme play essential roles in the writing of poetry – yet how are they to be translated into another language? 

Is the translation of a poem necessarily to be thought of as an inferior work to the original? Drawing on their experience with the theory and practice of translation, a discussion is being hosted by National Book Council (Malta) and Għaqda tal-Malti at the University of Malta tomorrow.

The discussion will bring together British poet and literary translator Rod Mengham, Clare Vassallo, who teaches translation theory and literary translation at the University of Malta; and Kevin Saliba, a literary translator who translates poetry into Italian and Maltese.
