The metro being proposed by architect Konrad Xuereb could generate as much as €300 million a year, he assured Times Talk, saying that the 50km project had to be seen as complementary to other transport systems.

The controversial proposal was first made last July, and Dr Xuereb, who has worked on infrastructural projects in the UK, said that it would take just 10 years to build the underground system, at a cost of €3-4 billion.
