On Monday I took bus 186 to Ta’ Qali. Arriving there, I found the place still like a bomb site with one or two workmen sprinkled around doing very little. Apparently the work is due to be completed by 2020 - maybe if they banned mobile phones!

Coming out to wait for the next 186 to Rabat, this was the usual futile venture: the timetable specified 13.09. By 13:30 nothing was in sight. A young woman waiting on the other side said she had already been there half an hour before and no. 186 had appeared going to Buġibba.

Then an overseer in a yellow jacket pointed out that there was only one-way traffic on the road going to Rabat, due to road works.

MPT, with its usual efficiency, had neglected to put up any notices at the stops, pointing out the absence of a service from Ta’ Qali to Buġibba.

The Craft Village at Ta’ Qali is a big tourist attraction (or was). I would have thought it should have a lot of workmen present to get the job done as quickly as possible.

Also, judging by the constant flow of HGVs along the road, something better than the existing road is needed. What is the point of rebuilding the village on a grand scale if the only road is about four metres wide?
