Some 50,000 people are calculated to enter Valletta every day with the majority of them, no doubt, walking along Republic Street. The rejuvenation of our capital city is a delight to watch… the result of good planning and good taste.
A small detail, however, has escaped the sharp eyes of the authorities. A cypress tree can grow as high as four or even five stories. It can grow very straight with dense and dark green foliage.
Next time you are in Valletta stop in front of the law courts and the newly restored Great Siege memorial. The two cypress trees there look very unhealthy and depressing, absolutely not fit for purpose. The sooner they are replaced the better.
