More than €3 million collected through the Development Planning Fund are being invested in projects across 16 localities.

The scheme generated funds from development within the localities themselves, and thanks to these funds, local councils have the opportunity to develop projects that contribute to a better environment for their communities, Infrastructure Minister Ian Borg said.

The scheme allows councils to receive up to 30% of the project value in funds before work kicks off.

A total of €7.5 million have been allocated since the launch of the fund in 2017 and €29 million remain up for grabs.

“We will continue working with local councils to help with the implementation of infrastructural projects on every level, including roads, public spaces, and parking facilities,” Dr Borg added.

The councils benefitting from these funds are: Fgura, Żebbuġ, Ta’ Xbiex, Senglea, Qormi, Swieqi, Santa Venera, Gudja, Nadur, Ħamrun, Valletta, Vittoriosa, Siġġiewi, Cospicua, Lija and Birkirkara.
