Consumer legislation and aftersales return policies
The Sale of Goods provisions stipulated in the Consumer Affairs Act provide consumers with the right to request a free remedy when they purchase goods that do not conform to the original sales agreement. The time limit of this protection is two years from the date consumers come into possession of the goods purchased.
This protection does not cover situations where consumers return products because they have either made a wrong buying decision or simply changed their mind about the purchase made. In these situations, sellers are not obliged to provide any of the legal remedies stipulated in the Consumer Affairs Act.
This is not only the case for local sellers but also for European sellers as the same rules and regulations apply in all EU Member States. Sellers who opt to exchange, offer credit notes or issue money refunds for unwanted products do so voluntarily and not because of any obligations at law.
